Medical Emergency Aid Materials Reach Myanmar

By August 23, the Influenza A (H1N1) virus epidemic in Myanmar has claimed 33 lives. China promptly responded by dispatching medical aid materials to help its neighbor to contain the outbreak.



Sinopharm International answered the call from China’s Commerce Ministry and take part in the delivery of the live-saving materials, which arrived at the Rangoon International Airport on a charter flight on August 24. On behalf of the Chinese government, Mr. Hong Liang, China’s ambassador to Myanmar together with Mr. Xie Guoxiang, China’s economic counselor, handed over the materials at the airport to the Myanmar government, which is represented by the secretary of Myanmar’s health ministry. The event was covered by Xinhua, Phoenix, CCTV, and other China’s major media.

Myanmar’s health secretary said in an interview that they felt appreciated to the humanitarian assistance from China, and were confident that the materials would help Myanmar people in the virus diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control.



The 28 tons, 200 m3 medical materials are mainly vaccines, drugs, full-body protection suits, and respirators. To ensure a smooth delivery, the International Medical Cooperation Department and the International Sales Center of Sinopharm International worked together and formulated elaborate plans on vaccines procurement and cold-chain supply.
